Generative Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Innovation and Digital Transformation

BRAINS (Business-Ready AI-driven Network System) is a research and development project aimed at simplifying interactions between users and industrial information systems through the adoption of advanced Generative Artificial Intelligence technologies and Large Language Models (LLMs).

The project addresses the growing need to make industrial digital platforms more accessible, intuitive, and efficient, reducing technological complexity and facilitating the adoption of innovative solutions, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

BRAINS is carried out within the framework of the Liguria Regional Programme ERDF 2021–2027, with financial support from the European Union. The project brings together technology companies and academic institutions, including DocSpace, with the shared goal of fostering innovation, competitiveness, and digital transformation across the industrial sector.

Project Objectives

The primary objective of BRAINS is to develop an intelligent conversational assistant based on Large Language Models (LLMs), capable of facilitating access to and interaction with complex industrial platforms and applications.

Through the use of Artificial Intelligence, the project aims to:

  • Simplify human-machine interaction, enabling operators to communicate with information systems through natural language conversational interfaces.
  • Facilitate integration with enterprise systems, providing more intuitive access to information managed by ERP, MES, and SCM platforms.
  • Improve operational efficiency, simplifying data retrieval, processing, and utilization within industrial workflows.
  • Promote security and reliability, addressing information protection requirements and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Enhance technological accessibility, lowering the barriers to adopting advanced digital solutions, particularly for SMEs.

The solutions developed within the project are intended to be validated in real-world application scenarios, with particular attention to cybersecurity and supply chain management.

DocSpace’s Contribution

DocSpace participates in the BRAINS project by contributing its expertise in enterprise data management, integration, and sharing.

The company’s involvement aligns with its ongoing research and innovation activities, focused on developing solutions that enable organizations to maximize the value of their information assets and improve interoperability between digital tools and enterprise systems.

In this context, DocSpace’s experience in developing SpreadSheetSpace, a platform designed for sharing and synchronizing data between spreadsheets and enterprise information systems, provides a valuable technological contribution to the project’s research activities.

The integration of data management solutions with Generative Artificial Intelligence technologies represents a significant opportunity to make enterprise information more accessible and easier to use through innovative interaction methods.

Expected Results and Impact

BRAINS aims to contribute to the advancement of digital technologies for industrial applications, promoting the integration of Artificial Intelligence into business processes.

The main expected benefits include improved accessibility to industrial information systems, simplified operational workflows, enhanced information security, and broader adoption of innovative technologies across the industrial sector.

The project also promotes technology transfer between universities and businesses, supporting skills development and strengthening the competitiveness of Liguria’s industrial ecosystem.
